Noah Bouchard has released a new music video titled Barbie featuring Luke RV. The track has the typical Noah Bouchard style, which is slick, fresh and polished. We're big fans of both artists. Check the Music Video out here:
We had the chance to ask Noah Bouchard some questions. Here's how it went:
Where was the audio recorded for this song and who produced it?
Barbie was recorded with Minas, who produced and engineered the track, at his old home studio way back in December 2019! Although it’s gone through a few transitions and recordings since, so this track has definitely been a long time coming.
How did your journey with music start?
I’ve always been a music lover before an artist, so my musical journey probably started when I first started listening to grime music back when I was 12 or 13. I’m not sure exactly when I started writing and rapping, probably when I was like 15, but I remember recording these awful freestyles on a clip-on plastic mic on Audacity and sticking them on Soundcloud secretly. Mad to think how far it’s gone since then!
What music are your listening to lately?
I’ve got pretty varied taste to be honest, as far as hip hop goes I’ve been listening to a lot of Boldy James and Blu, also I’ve always got Frankie Stew, Sam Wise and Lausse the Cat in regular rotation. Aside from hip hop I’ve definitely been enjoying several of Jeff Rosenstock’s albums, also Jessie Ware, Arlo Parks and Lianne La Havas dropped albums recently that I really like.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I try to keep my music honest and authentically human, trying to strip away any ego or insecurities and present myself as genuinely as possible. I’ve always loved writing and I think that comes across in my music, the lyrics are a large part of it for me and I take a lot of time to make sure I get my message across. It can get a bit dark at times but I like to think there is some hope and positivity behind it somewhere.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
There’s so many! Kendrick Lamar is definitely one, his attention to detail is amazing to me, particularly over the course of complete albums. Will Toledo from Car Seat Headrest is a major source of inspiration for me too, I love his honesty in his lyrics and how vulnerable his music can be. David Berman (RIP) from Purple Mountains and Silver Jews has a writing style I really admire too, he writes with a lot of specificity, personality and humour while also communicating some really dark and important messages. I really like Charli XCX and 100 gecs too, I think the whole hyper-pop scene is pretty inspirational just for how wild and creative they are, like there’s absolutely no thought given to what’s cool or trendy or traditionally acceptable in music and I love that!
Who is your inspiration?
Aside from musical inspirations, my family and friends are my inspirations as they always show me the brightness and beauty in life and help me to become a kind and happy person.
What is your biggest/weirdest fear?
I don’t really know; I think I approach my whole life with a pretty high baseline level of fear.
What would be your super power?
It would be cool if I had the power to vanquish viruses at will.
What would you name your boat if you had one?
Noah’s Ark sounds good! Or has that been done before?
What’s next for you in 2021?
Well I’m moving back to London at some point to work in a hospital down there! And musically I’ve got a few songs I’m super excited about, so expect to hear them in the relatively near future.
