We had the opportunity to talk with DEK ahead of his battle with Ruby Enfys on the 23rd of May at the Danygraig Labour Club in Treharris.

DEK has recently released his highly anticipated first single titled "Who's He?" This track marks a significant milestone in his music career and showcases his unique artistry. "Who's He?" is an upbeat rap track characterized by a compelling rhythm that instantly captures the listener's attention. The production features an energetic beat that blends modern hip-hop elements with a touch of classic rap influences, creating a sound that is both fresh and nostalgic.

Here's how the interview went?

How are you feeling ahead of Battleground 2.0?

“I’m feeling excited, I’m feeling ready and just eager to show why I belong in this scene. It was a bit awkward that my original opponent pulled out, but props to Ruby for stepping up. I’m sure we’ll make it a good one.”

Have you seen anything from your opponent that has caught your eye?

“Her spoken word ‘Weight of Words’. It was just a lot different from the ‘freestyles’ and other clips I’d seen. It’s hard to talk about a topic that deep and, credit where credit’s due, I think she did a good job.”

What would you say are your opponents biggest strengths?

“Ruby hasn’t battled before, there’s no footage of hers I can study and I’ve only seen very short clips of hers mainly so, it’s harder to really figure out what she’s going to bring to the party. I guess, her biggest strength right now is the fact she is pretty damn hard to prepare for.”

What would you say are your opponents biggest weaknesses?

“Biggest? Her lack of battle rap experience and possibly her lack of music experience in general. I’ve not seen any reference to live performances on any of her socials. Sure, she seems committed but she’s new and again, she’s never battled before.”

Why are YOU going to win this?

“I’ve been around the industry since I was 16 and I can confidently assume I’ve got a lot more experience performing live. I think that’s going to be the deciding factor. I’m going to apply pressure and show I’m not here to take part, I’m here to make a statement in the Welsh battle scene.”

Anyone you’d like to call out?

“I have a list but, to be honest I’ll start off with Slick Trickz. However, if he doesn’t want it then just give me 2Complex or anyone, I’m ready to take on anyone at anytime. I’m not here to dodge anyone. I want ALL the smoke.”

Let us know who you think will win this battle.
