Remember this name…Mass Accord. Mass Accord are an Alternative Rap Duo from Cardiff. Consisting of Melo on vocals and Pomp producing. Mass Accord, the collective, consists of two artists creating some great music which has current mainstream recognition. Supported by BBC introducing and Horizons, they have also recently been chosen for the BBC Horizons Launchpad “Pad Award”. Definitely an Urban Culture Wales recommendation and one to look out for.
The duo are releasing a brand new track titled ‘Wholesome’ on the 5th which we were lucky enough to get a copy of before the release. The track has style, suave, and fresh vibes. The vocals are neatly polished and clean. The overall sound is mellow with an easy listening feel. The overdubs on the track add a great dimension to the vocals, which sit nicely upon a solid instrumental. Most notably, it gets the unconscious bob of the head going, a song that many will vibe and relate too.
The song starts with the hook, which then smoothly transitions into the first verse. The song builds as it goes on and when it drops you really feel the thump of the kick. The overall vocals are recorded professionally and mixed nicely with little added features such as a deep screw and adlibs featured with intelligent placement throughout the song. The light reverb on the vocals really brings the vocals out and make them a feature point of the song. We’ve been dancing in the office all week to this one.
The pair have received support and radio plays from BBC Radio 1xtra and Radio Cardiff and it’s easy to hear why. The duo have released 3 videos to date:

We caught up with theartists from Mass Accord. Here's how it went:
Melo
How did the journey with music start?
I come from a very musical family so I've grown up listening to a lot of different genres of music in my family household and in general. I grew up around my brother who is seven years older than me so I was always listening to garage and the late 90's/early 2000s rap music which is my favourite era. I used to write poems from a young age and slowly transitioned into writing over popular rap songs with my own lyrics, although they sounded terrible looking back haha practice makes perfect but I’m still learning.
What inspires you most?
My two daughters inspire me most and also my family and friends.
Have you ever experienced writers block? If so how did you overcome it?
I have experienced it, I guess it's something that comes and goes. Every artist experiences it 100 percent but I must say that I don't see it as I did when I first started out. Like writer's block was this big huge fear to me that I heard about from other people, mainly inexperienced people. It's kind of like this myth that sounds horrific but usually I just go for a walk or more often than not I just put the pen down for that day and come back to it naturally.
How long does it usually take you to write your songs?
I don't really have a time scale on it. Our process is simple and natural so sometimes it could be I just write it start to finish in a few hours. Other times it can take us 6 weeks to finish something. Like we could start it then leave it for a few weeks maybe even forget about it, then hear it again and be like oh yea maybe we should finish that one.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
The music we make is always natural, we don't force the process. What you hear on a Mass Accord track is always us translating how we feel into music. Originality and quality are two qualities that are key to us although again we don't ever force anything I guess those two qualities come naturally it's a formula that works for us.
What is your favourite song?
I don't have a favourite song per say but I do have some go to songs that I play almost every day. Probably not what you expect but I'm a huge RHCP fan. I also love roots reggae. "Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers to Cross" is a huge one for me. "Placebo - Every Me and Every You" is a great song, I'm a big fan of poetic song writers and those that can describe love in a poignant and truthful way, love hurts sometimes. I tend to listen to new wave rappers like Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti etc who are bigger than being put into a box they are the modern day rock stars.
What would be your super power?
My superpower would be the power to make people love themselves.
What pet would you love to have?
I'd like to have a Jet black horse like the one from the Lloyds advert.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
If I had one message to give it would be thanking them for the support, all the love doesn't ever go missed. Please stay tuned because we are about to turn the heat up a few notches and bring you some top quality content that hopefully we can get some people involved with in the near future.
What’s next for you in 2021?
So much planned we don't like to give too much away. But new single "Wholesome" obviously being released 5/2/21, off the back of that we have a little surprise before we launch the video for "Wholesome" too. Also EP coming very soon. In the meantime, we hope everyone stays safe and let's get through this year together stay bless everyone.

How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music since I was around 14 or 15 I used to play in bands before I started producing and I’ve been doing this now for the past 5 years.
What was the trigger point that made you decide to get into music?
There was never really a trigger point for me as such but it’s always been a massive part of my life. From an early age my dad used to take me to his band practices and I’d just sit there and watch them play for a few hours. Then when they would take breaks dad would sit me on the drum kit and id have a little go.
What is your creative process like?
Pretty straight forward really, I like to think it’s logical. I always start with melodies and build different melodies for different parts of the song. The melodies could be played in on the keyboard or sampled. Then once everything is there and I’m happy I start putting the drums in and playing around the different patterns to see which works the best.
What would you like remembered about you?
Honestly the sound I create. I’ve always dreamt of people knowing who I am just by hearing the productions. That for me is a big accomplishment.
What is your favourite aspect of producing music?
The creativity, simply because its endless. There is no better feeling than sitting in the studio and making tracks and coming up with new interesting ideas. That’s why me and Melo have so much fun because we both really enjoy the creative process.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
JHEEZE, there’s a lot but a few who always inspire me have to be Jimi Hendrix, DJ Premier, Mac Miller and Tom Misch.
What is the worst purchase you’ve ever made?
Has to be the bike I purchased during lock down that never came. 600 pounds spent only to go and find out it was a scam. It still gets me to this day haha.
If you were given a one-minute ad slot during the Super Bowl, what would you fill it with?
Mass Accord. A snippet of one of our tracks.
What is the most useless talent you have?
This might sound a bit crazy but I can vibrate my eyes.
What would be a good theme song for your life?
Honestly that is such a hard question, I feel like there is numerous songs for everyone’s life but if I had to choose one I’d go for Long Train Running by the Doobie Brothers.
