We had the chance to have a listen to this EP. Here's our thoughts on this piece.

Mantra

The opening track in this EP sets the listener up for a Boom Bap experience. The tempo is mellow. The flows are easy on the ear with a solid foundation based upon lyrical content. The artist rides with the beat and this track can be played in all occasions, in fact, as the EP goes on you’ll find this EP is certainly something that is easy to listen to. This is a quality introduction song to Galaxy Sega’s artistry.

Stranger Than Fiction

This track is a little more upbeat than the first, but the artist does not give up on his lyrical content. In fact, the lyrics are the strongest feature on this EP for sure. This song touches on topics which many will be able to relate too. The song has a catchy hook and again is produced to a very high standard. Big tune.

The Soul & The Mind

As the EP progresses we really start to delve into the mind of the artist. The instrumental again is cool, produced well and smooth. The vocals are again easy on the ears with easy to listen to flow integrated with excellent lyrics.

Xpress

This EP is super sleek, the lyrics roll out with fluidity and the instrumentals has been well chosen, here’s another example of this. The production is again polished, with subtle details throughout. Galaxy Sega has an exceptional talent for creating thought provoking lyrics. This song shows off some of his best lyrics.

Get In Where You Fit In

This song is one of the best on the EP. The lyrics are again full of content and ooze class. This track is our favourite off the EP.

The EP finishes off with the tracks “Lemme Pass” and “Deeper” which are both smart and artful. This a quality EP which is a joy to listen to. It’s the type of EP that takes no effort to listen, but when you do pay attention, you are nicely surprised by the complexity of the lyrics and the super smooth production.

Overall, this EP is a great piece of work, its artful, smooth, deeply filled with lyrical content and produced to a very high standard. This EP is an Urban Culture Wales favourite.

We also had the chance to ask this great artist some questions. Here's how it went:

Who recorded and produced the EP?

Yannick Washington Produced the EP (Y-dub). ydubbbb.bandcamp.com insta=ydubbb, and Meurig Hailstone, from Reel Time sound services in Cathys, Cardiff recorded all vocals. (www.reeltimesoundservices.co.uk)

What is the meaning behind your artist name?

Galaxy (the title if you will) was the idea of being vast and diverse, in an, inner and outer sense in many directions, and Sega (stage name) from my last name Chitsiga... was Siga, but every one kept saying Sega, which then stuck.

How did your journey with music start?

Started when I was young, I started street and break dancing with the dance floor monsters. Was a gateway into HipHop and I was hooked ever since then!

Have you ever experienced writers block? If so how did you overcome it?

No, life itself offers ample material to create. If I’m stuck on a line however I will go over what I have over and over until the next line makes it self-known.

How long does it usually take you to write your songs?

If I like the beat, I aim to have it down in three days. Sometimes however it doesn’t work out that way... 5 days max!

Can you remember the first time you wrote a song? Can you describe it for us?

The first track was called “she will” (the little Wayne, beat she will) which is on my first mix tape The Demonstration. It was about my ex leaving me! Ha! It can be found on my sound cloud. (Galaxy Sega)

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

2ove is 2ove.

What one person in Hip-Hop/Rap that has inspired you the most? Why?

Jay-Z. You can leave it at that really.

What is your biggest/weirdest fear?

Falling out of grace with those I truly love and hold dear.

What would be your super power?

Light manipulation... Not even Magneto, could deal with that!

What pet would you love to have?

Team Cats! Give me three rag dolls and I will be Happy! Shout out to the sassy cactus cat Navi.

What’s next for you in 2021?

There is an anime called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I will aim to approach the uncertainty of life the way they deal with it in the anime. You need to watch it all to understand. I have a lot of things planned so if you live in Cardiff you will see my schemes manifest in the city in one way or another this year and in 2022. Watch this space!
