We had the chance to chat with EZ Rah. Here's how it went.
How long have you been rapping?
Poetry was where it began for me. I probably started writing lyrics at 11 or 12 but I was never serious about being a poet. I just had something to say and no fear in saying it. Then as I started to get older the nature of what I was saying was changing. Me and my boys would chill in the park and rap battle each other regularly. Turned out I was pretty good. Me and my friends were in a band when we were in school as well. I played bass guitar but I was far from a pro. We weren’t serious about the band further than just having fun but it taught me a lot about the processes of making music and what sounds I liked. I learnt a lot in that time about how live events worked and began running them myself from 14 till I was about 16. At 16 I was sure that I wanted to do music but I didn’t ever record my own song probably until I turned 17. From then to now has just been growth.
How long does it usually take you to write your songs?
It differs. I wouldn’t say I write music quickly. If I have a time limit, then I can meet it but I like to put time into what I’m doing. Quality over quantity for me.

What inspires you most?
There’s a lot that inspires me. I get inspired by people around me regularly. I have a good group of creative friends around me and that definitely helps. I also take a lot of inspiration from my friends who aren’t as creative. Sometimes someone says something that triggers a thought in me and it’s those natural thoughts that have made some of my favourite songs. It’s also important that I inspire myself. I’m the reason I make music so it’s important to keep driving myself in the right direction.
Can you remember the first time you wrote a song? Can you describe it for us?
I was 14 when I wrote my first full song. It was about a girl I’d been seeing but it wasn’t no lovey dovey song it was about why we weren’t working out. It was actually good. I can remember the lyrics but I never recorded it or had any intention to. I learnt that I’m not a great singer pretty quickly but the flow and understanding I had of my voice and how to use it was there from early.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
Writing lyrics is the obvious one. All of the music I make is in my spare time. Xbox is standard. Raving would have been my first answer but it’s been so long since I actually went to a rave, it feels like a myth.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Don’t have one.
Who is the messiest person you know?
Depends what you define as messy. All my people get messy in a rave.
What would you like remembered about you?

What have you got planned for 2021?
I have some singles planned as well as a solo project at the end of the year. Features, videos, radio shows, podcasts as well as some other things I don’t want to give away yet.
