Freeze On Music ft Matthew James Hemmer

We’re big fans of Saykridd at UCW. He’s an artist that is regularly putting out music. In this latest piece, animated by Jake the Ripper, he opens up about difficult times. This video shows a dark and cold period, a representation of the artists’ mind-set when writing this song. The art form of the video is top quality and again shows the artists personality through animation and striking visuals.

The combination of rap and singing serves the song well. The listener may expect the vocals to be punchy and strong to match the instrumental, but, like the video, the vocals match the mellow tone and anguished voice of the lyrics. The lyrics speak of heart break and dealing with stress and even speaks about suicidal thoughts. The visuals blend the word form and vocals really well and form what is a cold, frozen, sympathic Music Video.

We had a chance to have a quick chat with Saykridd.

What is the inspiration behind your new track Freeze?

I went through a real low patch and was in a dark place for some time and I use music to vent, it’s my therapy so I put it all into the song - I’ll let the music do the talking haha.

What was the trigger point made you decide to get into music?

I used to battle rap online with other rappers from around the world for fun and I got really into it and it quickly grew into something I couldn't live without doing. When I started recording music and didn’t rap with an American accent I knew it was all I wanted to do.

How long does it usually take you to write your songs?

It literally could take me 5 minutes, I’ve sometimes freestyled songs and wrote it down, sometimes it can take days, depends how inspired I am by the beat and concept I’m working with. If I’m going through something in life I find it real easy and quick to turn that into a song.

What would be your dream collaboration?

Hard question I always try and answer lol, If we talking rappers, there is tons, but outside of hip-hop, I’d love to collab with a band like Linkin Park or Chilli Peppers.

What is your favourite song to perform?

Has to be White Boy Wasted, its years old but it still goes crazy in the clubs, I’m bored of it though lol, I do enjoy performing Misfit.

What’s your plans for 2021?

I’m currently finishing off my project ''RapzTaylorSwift'' and an EP with Hefty - as well as so many more songs recorded ready to release, I think I’ll releasing a new single at least once a month!
