We had the chance to catch up with Benji Wild for a quick chat. Here's how it went:

Where was the Music Video filmed?

The music video was filmed around Cardiff Bay Police Station during the time of the protests that were regarding the suspicious death of Mohamed Hassan. A young black boy that died hours after being released from custody.

Who produced the Music Video?

The music video came together after I spotted a video edit from a guy called ‘Greg Cain’. I messaged Greg and asked him if he would like to shoot some performance shots and make a music video out of it and he was happy to get on board.

How long have you been making music?

I’ve been playing about with music since I was a kid but I guess I would have been around 12 or 13 when I started writing and recording songs.

You are a prominent name in the Welsh Urban Scene. What drives you to be so active?

I’ve always used music as a way to express myself and I’m lucky that my music has always been received well by the public. It’s a supply and demand scenario and the demand is there so it’s my duty to fulfil my own potential.

What are your aspirations for your company?

I just want to be able to release music freely. I started B:WILD RECORDINGS so that I never have to rely on the middle man for releases. I guess the goal is always to be able to live off the money I can make from my art.

How long does it usually take you to write your songs?

I write songs fast. Sometimes I don’t write, I just let the beat play and record a load of stuff freestyle but when I do write, I tend to be able to finish a track in minutes. Practice is key and I have always written a lot of songs even if the majority haven’t seen the light of day yet.

What is your favourite song to perform?

I enjoy performing ‘Boots’ especially on a heavy sound system. That track gives me goose bumps. I love the intensity and the heavy drops. Really works a crowd into a frenzy.

What plans have you got for 2021?

2021 is a strange year for all but I’m looking to roll out a few singles and then release a full project towards the end of summer. It would be nice to get out and tour or play a few shows at least but we are yet to see if that’s possible.
