Scarz releases a new track for the New Year. Watch the video below.
Scarz, from Cardiff, has suffered with serious conditions all his life. In this song he opens up about it. He talks about his operations, conditions and pain he felt. The video was produced by Jake The Ripper and Audio and Instrumental by Ferny Mac. We had the chance to ask Scarz a few questions:
This song is about your illness as a child and how you live with it today. Tell us about your conditions?
I have spina bifida, where I have a curvature on the base of my spine. I had to have a big bubble of fluid removed which was attached to my spine and this caused spina bifida due to that being removed and the pressure. I also have hydrocephalus, when I was born I had too much fluid in my head and the only way for my life to be saved was to have a shunt (a tube in my head) which drains the fluid away from my head and goes down to my stomach. Without this I wouldn't be here today.
What is the hardest thing about your condition?
For me the hardest part of my condition is the 13 operations I have had, not knowing if my shunt may block in which would cause more lifesaving operations (which could happen anytime) but more importantly the pain my mum, dad and family must have gone through when I was born and growing up.
What is the meaning behind your name Scarz?
The meaning behind my artist name Scarz is because I have seven scars from all the operations that I have had, but also showing that scars can heal and this makes you a stronger person.
How long have you been making music? And what is your favourite part?
I have been singing since i was a young boy. Where I was in school choirs, the Vale of Glamorgan County choir in primary and High school. I also worked with a local manager and producer when I was growing up. I lost my way with music due to everyday life and started making music and videos over the last 12months. For me my favourite part is getting thoughts, feelings off my chest. As this also helps with my anxiety and depression.
Where do you record your music? Who produces it?
I use a couple of local studios and have used a number of different producers to record my music as I love to work with new people. The producer for the song in question is a local rapper and producer Ferny Mac.
What plans do you have for 2021?
My plans for 2021 are to improve on my flow, mixing up my singing styles by working on different genres of music. Also pushing my music as much as I can and also try and collab with new people.
