Interesting battle lined up by Pryme Cut. Presented by Chew and E Why Easy. Slick Trickz is the underdog going into this battle. I know Slick personally as he’s performed at couple of my past events, he’s respected by all the lads in the Welsh scene as being one of the nicest guys you’ll meet. Brave I haven’t met but do follow all his battles and this guy is one of the best in Wales. No doubt this will be a great battle.
Here is the video:
I score each battle on a round to round basis giving each battler a score out of 5 based on lyrics, presence, crowd control, confidence and ability. I then add the scores up to give a final result and winner.
He leads on from those funny bars and starts to deliver those savage bars, which I like, a lot. His whole demeanour changes and he goes into beast mode. This is a very strong round.
Round 1
Slick opens well, perhaps a little nervous, I think he knows he’s the underdog here; but he holds his own and doesn’t show it one bit. His body language is confident, I like the way he gives a little laugh at the end of some of his punchlines like he knows their good, and they are solid bars leading to an overall strong round. I think Slick Trickz can improve a lot in future battles, perhaps attacking his opponents more directly in the first round (as we see Brave do in a moment) would improve his chances of winning opening rounds. Mark my words though Slick Trickz can become one of the best Welsh battlers in the scene.
Round Score - 3
Brave is on another level though. His pronunciation and his presence is of that of a very skilled and experienced battler. From the get go the crowd are on his side, his bars are hilariously funny, delivered in a near flawless manner. He leads on from those funny bars and starts to deliver those savage bars, which I like, a lot. His whole demeanour changes and he goes into beast mode. This is a very strong round. An area which he can improve is crowd control, if he just paused for a moment or two longer between certain bars it would escalate his performance even higher.
Round Score - 4
Round 2
Slick must know at this point the first round has slipped away from him. I was hoping he would have planned for this eventuality being the underdog in this match. By this I mean he needed to deliver some bars here to sway the crowd back in his favour and should have been thinking about this scenario happening beforehand. He needs to get in Braves face and say a big fuck you. He opens well be I would love to see an aggressive Slick at this point giving how Brave ended his round. He seems a bit laid back and slurring words a little. I can’t fault his bars, seriously, however I believe if he switched his style up and got “overly-aggressive” and in Braves face the crowd would be much more hyped in his favour. Maybe not with the fashion police bar (although E Why Easy chuckling at his bars is hilarious) but you catch drift. I would also like to see more emphasis on Slicks ending bars of each round.
Round Score - 3
The first thing you notice is how Braves voice fills the room and over powers the crowd while Slick struggled at some points to manage that. Again though I believe his overall performance would benefit by waiting a moment or two longer before delivering certain bars; just to allow the crowd to settle again before sending them back into raptures. But seriously, this again is a super strong round, I’m trying to critique this but you can’t with this level of “battle maturity”. Brave is killing it. These may be some of the best bars a Pryme Cut event has ever heard. This round has it all, funny bars, savage bars, reloads. What more do you want.
I have to point out Crash on the camera too, his reaction in this round is great. Terrible camera skills, great to have involved in the events.
Round Score - 5
Round 3
Slick for me remains at the same level throughout the battle. He should maybe think about elevating and de-elevating his performance for maximum crowd response, coz his bars are solid, there’s no denying that. Slick has a fighting spirit; most likely aware he may lose this battle before it began but he doesn’t falter. Strong round but again emphasis on his ending bars would be so advantageous.
Round Score - 3
This round Brave is flawless. Apart from the crazy bars (which I’ll add to) his delivery is perfect. Confident, laid back, he’s in the zone battling. This round shows his level again, as a Dad of two young children I can relate to these bars heavily. Furthermore, Brave looks like he’s thoroughly enjoying it and I love to see that. His scheme is great, flows when he needs to, waits when he needs to and rhyming is phenomenal.
Round Score - 5
Conclusion
Slick can learn a lot from Brave but Brave can also learn from Slick. Slick loses the crowd more as the battle goes on but possess an instinctiveness to know when to start his bars. Slick does wait for the crowd to settle before delivering his bars but of course he didn’t generate the same crowd responses Brave did. That’s where they can learn from each other. If Slick “attacked” his opponents more aggressively as Brave does, especially at crucial points in the battle, I believe he could become a surprise package in the Welsh battle scene. People finding fault in his bars probably dislike Slick, it’s his delivery of his bars in which I believe he can improve, and for me he’s got nothing to lose by being a bit more aggressive because he’s usually considered to be an underdog. I think this was a fantastic performance by Slick who only keeps improving.
Brave though is a top battler, one of the best in Wales. There is not much he can improve on I believe. Any one battling Brave is in for a fight. He is near flawless throughout the battle and even then its minor points which could be built on. I would love to see him compete at major British or even worldwide events because he has a lot to offer the battle scene.
Final Score
Slick Trickz 9.
Brave Mugraw 14.
